Walgreens Shopping Guide
The best way to maximize your OOP$avings at Walgreens is to take advantage of RR and use them in "rolling" transactions. In other words, make several small, individual orders and use the RR from the previous transactions to pay for the following transactions.
(Note: Stores are limiting the number of transactions you can do at one time. Check with your store before you shop.)
I recommend planning your shopping trip off peak hours and check out at the cosmetics counter. You will get a lot more "mileage" out of a store clerk that is relaxed and not stressed due to high customer volume and lines! Be sensitive to other shoppers. If you are in the middle of your transactions and a line begins to form or someone has one or two items in line behind you, complete your current transaction and move aside to let the person behind you make their purchases. After the check out, you can resume your transactions. Being sensitive to other shoppers and this simple gesture will go a long way on all fronts! Remember, you are representing ALL couponers EVERYWHERE and how you act reflects on us all!
So, what are RR?
Register Rewards (RR) are coupons that print from a machine called a Catalina. Many grocery and/or drug stores stores use these machines. Walgreens RR are coupons you can only redeem at Walgreens. RR are Manufacturer coupons issued by the Manufacturers of promotional products on sale that week. For instance, if you purchase a Gillette Razor and $5 Register Reward prints, the RR is a coupon provided by Gillette for making a promotional purchase and is worth $5 off your next order at Walgreens. When you redeem your RR, Walgreens will submit the RR to Gillette for reimbursement, plus a small handling fee just like any other Manufacturer coupon.
How do I know when a RR will print?
Check the weekly ad to see all the advertised RR for that week along with the requirements for each promotional product purchase. Sometimes you are only required to buy one or two items, while other times you will need to purchase a dollar amount of specific items.
Can I use a RR to buy the same item again?
NO! If you purchase the same product as the one that generated the RR in a second transaction, a second RR will NOT print when you redeem the first RR! Essentially you will be losing money! Additionally, when more than one of the same promotional product requirement is purchased together in the same transaction, only (1) RR will print. Many people purchase multiples of a promotional product within a single transaction expecting a RR to print for each promotional product, which is not the case. It is only (1) RR per item/s required to get the RR, per transaction. (Which is why we do multiple transactions.)Can I use a RR to buy different RR products?
YES! The BEST way to maximize your OOP$avings is by "Rolling RR". Use your RR to purchase other promotional products offered by different Manufacturers to get more RR! The key is to NOT use them on the same promotional product or any products by the same manufacturer. Sometimes a cashier may tell you that you will not receive another RR if you use one (even if it is not for the same product or Manufacturer). If this happens, don't get rattled. Simply ask if this a new rule within the last couple of days? Then ask them to ring up your purchase anyway and see what happens. Sometimes the cashier is not completely informed and that's okay. Be polite and know the coupon policy. How long until RR expire?
On average, RR have a 14 day expiration date from printing. Be sure to check the expiration dates of all your RR. If you do NOT shop Walgreens weekly, it is a good idea to use all your RR from each shopping trip at the time you are shopping. This way you will not have to worry about missing an expiration date and losing out on $$! Just make another purchase and use your RR to pay for the transaction and perhaps get it FREE!Does Walgreens limit the number of coupons I can redeem?
In a sense, yes...this is where Walgreens couponing gets a bit tricky. The number of Manufacturer Coupons redeemed in a single transaction can not exceed the number of individual product items purchased within that same transaction. Since RR are considered Manufacturer coupons, you must count them into your coupon totals. For example, you make a single transaction purchase that includes 4 individual products. You have (4) Manufacturer coupons to redeem PLUS you want to redeem a $2 RR. In order to redeem your RR on this transaction, you will need an additional product purchase ("filler item") without any coupon. A "filler" is any inexpensive product purchased during a transaction to make your Manufactures coupons and number of items ratio equal. (Note: Walgreens coupons do NOT count toward the coupon to item ratio!)
Does Walgreens let me use a Manufacturers coupon and a Walgreens coupon on the same product?
YES! Walgreens lets you "stack" your coupons! You may use a Walgreens in ad coupon AND a Manufacturers coupon on the same product purchased to maximize your OOP$avings! Remember that your Manufacturers coupons redeemed can NOT exceed the total number of products purchased in a single transaction, but Walgreens coupons do not count toward your coupon totals!
(Tip: Be sure to hand over your Walgreens coupons LAST to get the maximum benefit from your Manufacturers coupons.)
Does Walgreens allow coupon overages?
No, if your Manufactures coupon total is more than the cost of products purchased, your coupons will be adjusted down. Be sure to carefully plan out your shopping trip and add any necessary "filler" items to make sure your OOP$ is not less than $0.00 that way you will redeem the full value of your coupons. You wouldn't pay with a $5 bill for a product that cost $3 and not expect to get the full value of your money would you?! Coupons ARE money that Manufacturers use to pay us to shop!
